Engine 1 has been with the department for several months and due to the recent Ryegate house fire, all the members are receiving an evening of hands-on training. This evening session consisted of learning how to drive the truck and pump water from the truck's water tank. It's not easy being a volunteer firefighter and mastering wildland plus structure procedures. On top of that most travel long distances to and from work. It requires unusual dedication. |
They may be approaching overload with all the information they are receiving. It really is a formidable piece of equipment and no one could be expected to master all the operations in one or two sessions. Darkness had set in when we called it a night. Many of them were still on hand, getting in some nightime driving. |
